Sustainability

At Molly Wilcock Jewellery, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. As a small, independent business run solely by Molly, we believe that every step, no matter the size of the business, can make a difference. We're committed to continuously improving our practices and creating beautiful, mindful pieces that reflect this mission.

What we currently do:

·      All of our jewellery is designed, made, and dispatched by Molly Wilcock. By handling everything in one place, we minimize the carbon emissions typically associated with transporting stock between locations.

·      We create with intention, releasing pieces gradually rather than large collections all at once. We focus on what resonates with our customers, and if there’s demand, we continue making more pieces within that collection.

·      We create our jewellery in small batches, ensuring minimal waste and avoiding excess stock. If a design doesn’t resonate as expected, we don’t end up with hundreds of unused pieces. Once stock runs low, we start planning the next launch. While this may mean some items are temporarily out of stock, we’re always working to keep our collections replenished in a timely manner.

·     We prioritize reducing our carbon footprint by using public transport to visit our casters and platers, and opting for click-and-collect services from select suppliers. This approach not only minimizes our reliance on shipping but also fosters more personal relationships with our partners, adding a human touch to every step of our process.

·    We primarily work with silver, along with other precious metals upon request. Most of the metals we use are already recycled and can be continuously repurposed. Any waste from our production process is smelted back into bullion, allowing it to be reused indefinitely, further reducing waste and supporting sustainable craftsmanship.

·     When sourcing gemstones, we prioritise sustainability by purchasing from closing down sales, giving unused stock a new life. Additionally, we work closely with our suppliers to ensure the traceability of gemstones, supporting ethical sourcing and transparency in every piece we create.

·     We reuse any plastic baggies received from suppliers to store findings and other materials for future projects. This small practice helps reduce waste and aligns with our commitment to sustainability in every aspect of our business.

·     All of our jewellery is shipped in recyclable packaging, ensuring that our commitment to sustainability extends to every order we send out.

·      We exclusively ship with Royal Mail, the UK’s greenest delivery option, as they work toward their goal of Net-Zero emissions. You can learn more about their sustainability efforts on their website.

·     We offer a repairs and re-plating service for all our jewellery, providing an eco-conscious alternative to replacement. This approach extends the life of your pieces and supports our commitment to sustainability.

·     Molly is on a personal sustainability mission, striving to reduce consumerism by purchasing with intent and longevity in mind. She also carries a tote bag everywhere she goes, cutting down on single-use plastic bags and further supporting her continuing eco-conscious journey.

Our future goals:

·     Collaborate with stockists to offer our jewellery in a variety of locations. This helps minimise postage emissions and gives customers the opportunity to see and try on pieces in person before purchasing.

·      Continue partnering with suppliers who share our sustainability values and prioritise traceability, ensuring ethical practices throughout our supply chain.

·      Sourcing machinery and tools second-hand, not just buying new as a default.

·      Any jewellery that does not meet our strict standards, will be sold at a heavily discounted rate in our up-and-coming sample sales.

·      To be able to calculate our carbon emission annually, and work on keeping it at a minimum, while simultaneously growing the business.

·       Collaborate with charities on creating charity pieces where a portion of the profit will go to the charity.
